About the Conference

This conference aims to motivate key stakeholders to invest in interventions that transform current unsustainable food systems by transitioning towards more environmentally friendly solutions with long-term vision and planning.

The conference will be held in Kampala, Uganda, from 15th - 18th March 2027, involving sit in-sessions and field excursions. The conference will be a hybrid event comprising in-person attendance and livestreaming for on-line participants.

#Conference Sub themes

Enhancing the availability, accessibility and affordability of quality ecological-organic inputs (organic fertilizer, pesticides, farmer seeds)

Technologies, innovations and management practices for sustainable natural resources systems (sustainable land and water management, holistic grazingland management, productive use of renewable energy, circular economy, Agroecological mechanization, climate change mitigation and adaptation)

Strengthening agroecological standards, certification and traceability systems to enhance trade and market access for Agroecological products. This subtheme also includes processing and value addition, nutrition, consumption, food safety and environmental health.

Advancing policy frameworks, institutional arrangement and governance systems to scale Agroecology (domestication of Kampala CAADP declaration and East Africa agroecology policy, mainstreaming Agroecology in education, incentives and subsidies for organic inputs, the role of private sector, strengthening extension pathways).

Finance and investment for scaling Agroecology

Inclusive agroecological transitions: culture, empowerment and capacity development for diverse groups (youth, women, pastoralist, PLWD, indigenous people and local communities)

Shared Vision

Truly functioning agri-food systems widening access to sufficient and healthy food for all, in thriving economies that safeguard the planetary boundaries.

The conference provides a forum to discuss important issues including evidence-generation of agroecology impacts, scaling up agroecological transitions, digitalization in agri-food systems, investment in research and innovation, engagement of small-scale food producers including indigenous peoples, women, youth and the private sector in agri-food systems transformation.
